We are Randy and Quelle Simmons and we are Calm Seas. It is our desire to provide a meaningful and respectful cremation services for your loved one. Our ceremony for scattering ashes at sea after cremation is an honorable alternative to traditional funerals and internment in a cemetery. The final dispersement of your loved one's remains will take place on the beautiful Pacific North Coast, the home of the majestic Redwoods.

The placing of the ashes will be done with the dignity and ceremony of a traditional nautical burial at sea. Every service we do is dignified by the tolling of the ships bell, the sounding of the bosun's whistle, actual crossing of the bar and the reading of the Nautical Committal to the Deep.

We are licensed as cremated remains disposers by the State of California (CRD#592), and strictly abide by all state and federal laws. We do all of our services personally and do not contract with other entities. Every life is unique and special and deserves our personal individual service.

You, the surviving loved ones, are also very special to us and we understand the emotions and difficulties that often accompany this time of life. We will work to minimize any stress involved, provide comfort, and help you resolve situations. We fine tune our services to fulfill your specific needs and desires. If you have any questions or we can be of any service to you, please feel free to contact us at any time.

We are dedicated to being and providing the very best. Ocean memorial services are what we do. It is not a sideline to boost a sagging fishing business or charter service. We are a State of California licensed Cremated Remains Disposer (CRD#592). As such, we are governed and abide by strict environmental protection laws and are in full compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations.

We at Calm Seas feel that the scattering of cremated remains on the ocean is an honorable and meaningful alternative to other forms of internment. People choose scattering at sea for a variety of reasons:

  • Wishes of the deceased
  • Nautical background or experiences
  • A love of the ocean
  • Conservation of land area
  • Affordability
  • Search for honor and closure.

Our sevices at Calm Seas are steeped in nautical tradition. The tolling of the ship's bell as we leave the dock, and the sounding of the bosun's whistle at the edge of the marina and also at sea after we lay the cremains, travel across the water to signal to all that a life worthy of respect is being honored. The crossing of the bar as we enter the ocean is a traditional depiction of the transfer from this life into the next, as is so meaningfully portrayed by Tennyson in his poem "Crossing the Bar". The Nautical Committal to the Deep has been read at sea burials for centuries and is therefore a part of our services. Other readings and prayers chosen by the family are always welcome. After the remains are placed in the ocean we allow the boat to drift away in silence, in memory of a life lived.
